1. I would describe my artistic style as not so realistic. I think I enjoy creating patterns and doodles because you can be super creative and do crazy things and still have it look good. I also think I like this style because when I picture it in my head I can actually put it on paper, but when I am trying to draw realistically I cannot put on paper what I am picturing in my head. I think the definition of success for every artist is different, but for me it is when I have made my piece the best that it can be, or once there is nothing more I can add to make it better. I think the most rewarding thing about being an artist, is when you mess up, but the mess up actually makes it look better. I feel that is really rewarding because even though you thin you messed up, it all turns out to be good. I think some of the most important skills would have to be a steady hand, attention to detail, and focus. You need a steady hand because you have to be able to stay neat. You need attention to detail so your artwork will look as good as possible, and you need to focus because art takes a super long time. One of the most significant things I've learned through art making is probably neatness. I've noticed that my art, and handwriting has gotten neater throughout my high school art, which I didn't expect. As you can see in my pen and ink drawing, it represents my style and what I have learned so far. The lines in the sky show neatness and a steady hand and all the patterns are my favorite style of art to do.
2. Looking at my portfolio, I do think I grew in most things. In my pen and ink, water color, and acrylic, I definitely grew. If I look back at my projects in the same medium from art one, you can really see my growth. I think I grew the most in the acrylic medium. While doing my watercolor, I learned that I actually love doing the masking fluid method. It looks really crisp and nice. I actually think the watercolor pretty much captured the artistic vision I had in my head, and using the masking fluid makes it easier to capture. If you look at my acrylic, I think it would have been a lot worse at the beginning of the semester, because I have since learned about angles and proportion. While painting this, I think I had envisioned something a little bit neater and more colorful, but I think it came out somewhat how I had imagined. Overall I have definitely have gotten better at achieving my artistic vision. Creativity wise, I actually do think I got a little more creative with my style and colors, which I didn't really notice was happening until a few day ago.
4. In this lesson, we shaded a sphere and a cone using colors, instead of like black and white. We used white for the highlights and usually purple or dark blue for the shadows. On the cone I used almost a rainbow, but without green and it actually ended up working pretty well. For prismacolor, I think a little more instruction probably would have helped me, but other than that, I don't think I needed much more. If I had know how to draw facial features better, I think that it would have helped a lot.
(cont of #4) I am not sure if you would consider this a "mini lesson" but it wasn't our main project, so I'm just gonna consider this one. This activity was a piece of a larger painting, called Yellow Cow. This activity pretty much was everything I needed to know, in regards to acrylic paint. I practiced color blending, and many techniques. I definitely think enough instruction was given for this unit.
6. My favorite medium to work with was acrylic paint. This was my favorite because it was so easy to work with, and really easy to get the colors I wanted. I also thought it was easy to create texture. I think I was able to "master" this technique because of all the practice we did before our main project, such as this tree, and our section of a painting. I definitely think got a lot better at making colors, I have almost become a pro, and I have also gotten a lot better at certain brush techniques. I definitely have a lot to learn. In order to master acrylic paint, I have to practice a lot, and also I should try different styles of art using acrylic paint, such as realism and pop art. If I were to try new styles of art I feel it would help me master this medium even more.
